Do you have an A/V systems planner for your project before you bid it out ?
Sound,Lighting,Telephone,POS,Video, Security and Data systems need to be planned in advance?
Does your architect, electrical contractor, interior designer or GC know how to do AV planning?
Who in your project team is responsible for electronic systems planning?
85% of restaurant projects do not have an LV-systems plan before they bid the project out.
By not having an AV plan, you will have more cost over-runs, use more labor, have redundant communications , need architectural planning change orders, and have additional electrical engineering fees.
The Electrical Contractor needs this information to be able to run cable to the correct areas. Not having the AV plan during the bidding process will cost your project additional electrical contractor fees as AD-ON work charges.
Review:
The most important aspects in the early planning stage of a restaurant are:
The electrical contractor needs to know where they need to install the power outlets for A/V/C/T/L/P/S
- How much power is need?
- Where to install: POS cables, Telephone cables, Sound system cables, Video cables, Data cables, Security cameras and Lighting control cables?
- What types of cables are needed?
- What size gang and control gang boxes are needed during framing and if any conduit is needed ?
- Equipment sizes, colors and placement information.
- The ceiling, , lighting and the HVAC contractors need to know where the speakers are going into the ceiling so they can avoid conflicts between their products and the LV-systems.
- The GC needs to know all this information plus what equipment needs additional support and framing.
- Location(s) for equipment racks and telephone equipment demarcation have to be on the AV Plan.
- CCTV security camera positions & locations, including the camera lenses, housing and lighting conditions, need to be determined.
- Cable/SAT services have to be planned for.
- TV locations and Cable box locations need to be addressed.
- Cable boxes and audio controls must be positioned for application needs.
If the electrical contractor does no know where to install equipment ruff-ins or run cable & power they cannot give you a price quote for the work. This information needs to be put into the LV-electrical plan. The electrical engineering company needs to know this information so they can add it on to the electrical diagram. The architect needs this info so there are no conflicts with the design look & function. The owner needs it so they have the systems in the budget and that it will be installed and working correctly when the restaurant opens.
